What the machine is telling you.

When a Viking oven stops heating, the cause is usually one tired component, not the whole machine. On gas ovens the most frequent culprit by far is the bake igniter. It glows, but it no longer pulls enough current to open the safety valve, so the gas never flows and the oven just waits.

On dual fuel and electric models the suspects shift to elements, temperature sensors, and control relays. Either way, the right answer is the same. Test the circuit with instruments, find the component that actually failed, and replace it with a genuine part. Guessing costs more than diagnosing.

Where we look first.

Weak bake igniter

It still glows, so it looks alive. But it no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve. The single most common Viking oven repair there is.

Failed safety valve

The igniter does its job and the valve still will not open. Less common than the igniter, and we test rather than assume.

Broken element

On dual fuel and electric ovens, bake and broil elements burn out with age. Blistering or a visible break is the tell.

Temperature sensor drift

The oven heats, but never to the number you set. Sensor testing and calibration bring it back to true.

Control or relay fault

The board calls for heat and nothing answers. We trace the circuit before condemning any part.

Door not sealing

Heat escapes faster than the oven makes it. Long preheats and pale baking usually follow a worn gasket or a dropped hinge.

Good to know.

The oven clicks or glows but never lights. What is that?

Almost always the igniter running weak. It is a routine repair, and we carry igniters for the common Viking platforms on the truck.

Is it safe to keep trying the oven?

If you ever smell gas, stop and air the room out before calling. Otherwise a failed ignition attempt is designed to fail safe. Still, the sooner it is fixed the better, and the repair is a routine one.

Can you fix it in one visit?

Usually. Igniters, sensors, and common elements ride on every Noble truck, and most oven heat calls end with a working oven the same day.
